Designing online forms is often considered a baffling task by web designers. Mere application of CSS templates is not enough to have a well carved out form. Forms are very essential in building up an interaction between a user and the website. Several concepts on online forms are in vogue but are seldom implemented. Let us have a glimpse into such ideas.
Forms are often crowded with numerous buttons to choose from. It makes things complex for the users. Fewer the options, less is the chance to commit an error. So it is better to install just one button on a single form. Uniform color on all the buttons is also often advised.
Simply filling up forms with questions is not justifiable. Asking questions is a part of the business functionary. So, if we state the reasons as to why the questions are being posed then things are transparent to the user.
While entering dates on the prescribed forms, users face a lot of hassle. Date formats are different across countries. In US, month comes first whereas in other countries date comes first. Even there are various ways to start the week as in a Sunday or a Monday. In order to avoid all these, hassles, a calendar box format is often the most convenient way.
There are often fields such as telephone number or the house number and area code, where without observing minutely, users place the entire number in the initial field itself.
Hence just one field is enough for phone numbers and similar areas.
To make things simpler, place a note indicating what a specific field implies. For example: ‘Required fields are mandatory’
